I got so many emails and comments with a lot of great ideas and truly helpful experiences. I am sorry I just can't email each of you back so this is easier just to post. Tons of people suggested aquafor/Eucerin, possibly hydrocortisone cream and antibacterial ointment. I am taking all of those things. I tried and tried to call our current pediatrician and others to ask and beg them to please look at the pictures of Jeremiah, but none would. They all say it is against the rules - they won't even look at it to give me suggestions of over the counter products or samples of anything. So I understand, but felt so frustrated because SO many people who have adopted have had doctors be more than helpful with things like this - even prescribing medicines for all possible problems.
Good news - our updated immigration paperwork supposedly just got sent electronically to Addis Ababa - which is really calling it close. We could not have traveled this week if it wasn't there.
Bad news-scabies (skin mites) and chickenpox is going around the orphanage. This is not a surprise since this is very common with all the orphanages and kids adopted from Ethiopia. I do not worry or freak out easily, but I have to say that scabies is the one thing that kind of freaks me out and I have been praying we do not bring home. I just can't imagine bringing this highly contagious, itchy bug home to all of our kids, linens, clothes, furniture etc.
One more thing some people have asked - we are thankful for people wanting to welcome us home at the airport or shortly after we get back, but truthfully, we don't want anyone at the airport and we will need at least a few days just to get rested. We have done enough international travel to know how tired and sometimes grumpy we feel when we finally arrive home. We will just want to get to bed. Especially now with not knowing if our kids will be contagious for a while it is best not to have visitors for a while until we get everyone "checked out" and treated.
Give Thanks Always

I am so excited for you and I can't wait to hear all about your trip!
I'll keep you in my prayers- it's going to be a tough trip being pregnant- I feel for you.
Drink plenty of water and keep your feet up!:)
Just a suggestion if you are into natural remedies at all- I have had great success using Tea Tree oil on all things bacterial or fungal.
My sister took it to her microbiology lab and it was destroying stuff that antibiotics weren't touching...her teacher was impressed.
If Jeremiah's condition is a bacterial or fugal infection it might help- though I would mix it with Aloe Vera before applying it to his face.
Poor baby, he looks miserable.
Prayers for a safe trip, joyous meeting of your babies and many wonderful memories!

I'm so glad that your immigration paperwork arrived! That is great news! Sorry to hear that the docs weren't cooperating. Did you try a pharmacist? I don't know if they'd be anymore help or not. We will be praying that whatever it is gets under control before you come home. I'm so excited that you will be holding your little guys in your arms soon!
We are praying for your health and theirs, and quick bonding, and as easy of a transition as can be when you get home. We love you all and are so excited for you to get your babies! Have a safe, safe trip!
Ha, I am excited about your truthfulness in your last paragraph. I 100% agree. It's not fun arriving after such a long trip, pregnant, and than sticking around greeting people.
Joy ,
I agree with you about scabies :( I was in Ethiopia picking up Ava and everytimes I was itchie I though that I had scabies.
I am sorry that no DR want to prescribe anything for your baby . Mine was so nice. He looked at Ava's pictures when she has her skin problem and even forward it to a derma. He also prescribed so Amoxicilin and cream fro scabies. I didn't need it so I left it at the NF .
I also agree that after a long trip you want to go home and rest so I wont go to the airport :( helps a lot that I am in NH huh :)
Have a wonderful trip and can't wait to hear from you , see pictures . Can you believe that it is YOUR turn .
Love ya girl :)
Our Dr. is that way. Thankfully, he is a man (family Dr) who I know I can trust. He has been my Dr. since I was a small child. He assured me that nothing he comes home with (the skin issues) is going to hurt for a couple more days until he can check him out. What could hurt is putting something on his skin that is the wrong prescription. Prescription skin meds can be powerful for adults and they are such small little ones. Especially the scabies meds. They are toxins and are not worth putting on them if not absolutely necessary. We came home with scabies and impetigo and they were both very easy to clear up.
A note on the scabies: they are not AS contagious and some think. Only my husband and our infant got them from Noah. I didn't even get them and I held him the most. I would google ways to keep them at bay including keeping their skin covered (clothing, sox, gloves) washing their bedding every day and having the baby lay on a blanket. not on the carpet.
And we will pray that you get there and there aren't even any problems at all!
I'm SO excited for you and your family. It's a wonderful, crazy, emotional time. We had a similar experience with the embassy, except that Radu escorted our son and he was in the country and literally got the paperwork the afternoon of his departure. He had to 'encourage' the DHL driver to deliver it after tracking him down. Apparently the cable/email procedure from the NVC was not used anymore and all files had to be physically mailed via DHL - a change that occurred the week of our approval. I was on first name terms with the wonderful women at the embassy in Addis Ababa. Everything worked out and we are now home with our son for almost 9 months! Can't wait to read more updates from you. I'll be praying.
I am so happy for you and your family that you are finally going to pick up your boys. I can't wait to hear all about it and see all your photos. Regarding Jeremiah's skin rash, I bet if you took a picture to a CVS (or similar) pharmacy, the pharmacist might be able to recognize it and tell you what to get. Good Luck with everything. I'm praying for all of you.
Hi, I saw your blog from my friend Crystal's blog. Your family is beautiful. I am taking a bunch of meds including stuff for scabies when I go to Addis Dec 3rd ( another visit trip). We have traveled there many times adopting kids and yes, they always have "stuff" and we bring it home to others. Scabies is easy to treat. One thing I FOR SURE always do is treat for lice before coming home...that is such a pain if it spreads to rest of family. Make usre you all have shts for Hep A as many babies there have that but are have no symptoms...course you wil thin you are going to die if you get it yourself...ust be very careful with diaper changes in you don;t have the Hep A shots. I will be there from 12/3 - 12/18. Internet filters does not allow you access to blogger in Addis but my email address is mjfeser@msn.com
We are adopting a baby from AHOPE and toddler from Wanna through AAI. I will be visiting other orphanages while there.
Blessings, Julee
